Scion FR-S Named Best Sports Car for the Money by U.S. News & World Report

The 2013 FR-S beat out its competition to earn the Best Sports Car for the Money from respected publication U.S. News & World Report. The annual award recognizes value, quality and critical acclaim across 21 vehicle categories.

To evaluate the FR-S, U.S. News & World Report judges looked at the sports coupe’s safety record, reliability and opinion from industry experts. Additionally, the expected five-year total cost of ownership and average vehicle price at the time of publication contributed to overall scores. The FR-S costs $25,255 MSRP with a six-speed manual transmission or $26,355 MSRP with a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and Dynamic Rev Management technology.

“The Best Sports Car for the Money award is a testament to the incredibly fun and accessible sports car experience offered by the Scion FR-S,” said Scion Vice President Doug Murtha. “We are proud the FR-S continues to impress industry enthusiasts and drivers, while also representing the passion behind the Scion brand.”

The FR-S comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, a limited-slip differential and 2.0-liter flat boxer engine that produces 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Its distinctive lightweight design and impressive handling have built a following since its introduction last year.

Also winning awards were the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra, winning “Best Compact Truck for the Money” and “Best Full Size Truck for the Money” awards, respectively. It is the second year of top honors in a row for the Tacoma.

Car cleaning tip: Duct Clean to Keep that New-Car Smell

Compressed air from a small, portable compressor is an easy way to blow dust and dirt out of heating and air-conditioning ductwork. The trick is to aim the high-pressure air at the walls of the ducts behind the vent grilles, where dust and dirt stick and cause musty smells. If your car has a cabin air filter you can change it, or remove it and blow the dust and dirt out.

New-Generation Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid Gain Interior Enhancements in Their Second Year

Following the introduction of the all-new seventh-generation Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid for 2012, these midsize sedans enter the 2013 model year gaining enhancements to interior design and comfort and safety technology. The Blind Spot Monitor system, with availability expanded to the Camry SE grade, adds a rear cross traffic alert function.

America’s best-selling car for 14 of the past 15 years, the Toyota Camry introduced a bold, sophisticated new design with a more spacious interior, improved driving dynamics and an even quieter ride than before when it debuted for 2012.

The 2013 Camry Hybrid, which achieves 43 city MPG, also gains the interior enhancements of the gasoline Camry. A new soft-touch material is used on the front door panels on the Hybrid LE, as well as on the gasoline LE and SE grades, replacing harder plastic material used in the 2012 models. On LE grade models (including Hybrid), interior armrests now match interior color, replacing black. On models equipped with leather seating, the door panels feature new stitching accents.

In other changes for 2013, the Display Audio screen becomes standard for the Camry L grade and Camry Hybrid LE. The gasoline Camry is offered in entry-level L, value-driven LE, premium XLE and sporty SE grades, with a four-cylinder engine on L and LE and a choice of four-cylinder or V6 on SE and XLE. The Camry Hybrid is offered in LE and XLE grades.

Introduced in 1983, the Toyota Camry would later establish the template for the modern midsize sedan, setting benchmarks for Quality, Dependability and Reliability (QDR), along with a comfortable, quiet ride.  Since that time, Toyota has sold more than 15 million Camry models worldwide.

2013 Chicago Auto Show Toyota Tundra Reveal - Bill Fay

Good morning everyone and thanks for helping us kick off the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.

Chicago is Toyota's “Truck Show”…as we have a long history of major reveals here, many in this ballroom, such as the first-generation Tundra Crew Cab along with our NASCAR Tundra race truck, which will be going for its 100th victory at Daytona next week.

So, it’s only natural that this is where we’d debut the new 2014 Tundra -- the third new Toyota introduced in the last 10 months.

The gentleman behind the podium at the 2003 Chicago Auto Show is Dave Illingworth, who was a Senior Executive at the company and headed the Motor Sports among many other things.  Dave is now our Toyota Dealer in Warsaw, Indiana and is here with us today.  So join me in welcoming Dave back to the Show.

Toyota understands that American truck buyers have different needs, so we offer a choice of a compact
or full-size truck even while most of our competitors have abandoned the compact market.

Tundra and Tacoma sold nearly a quarter million trucks in 2012 -- claiming 18 percent of the combined
retail compact and half-ton pick-up truck market, which is about the same as our retail passenger-car share.  And all of them are built in North America.

In addition, no full-size truck has more North American parts content than Tundra.

We're optimistic about the future of the full-size pick-up truck market.  The recession hit the segment hard probably harder than any other and there were only 1.1 million sold in 2009.

But in 2012 with the economy growing in many areas, the segment exceeded 1.6 million units and we see it hitting 1.8 million by 2015.

The full-size truck segment has typically been one of the most loyal in the industry with owners continually replacing their old trucks with new ones and in today's market some are taking the opportunity to change. brands.

We’ve also seen more segment switching as people move from SUVs and cars to the unique capabilities increasing comfort of full-size pickups. With increased personal use, the mix of half-ton Crew Cabs has grown from 48 percent to almost 60 percent over the last five years.

There is also a growing trend towards more premium grades with additional features and distinctive. styling.

So we listened to what the market and customers were telling us when we redesigned the Tundra.

In addition to maintaining the capability, reliability and safety that truck buyer’s demand, the 2014 Tundra also features

  • unique exterior designs with a distinct look for each grade
  • An all-new spacious interior with each grade having its own identity
  • And new technological innovations that customers appreciate everyday

Ladies and gentlemen -- the redesigned 2014 Tundra.

Car maintenance tip of the day - The Penny Trick!

Car maintenance tip of the day - The Penny Trick!

To check tread wear, use "the penny trick:"

1. Insert a penny into the tread groove with Abe Lincoln's face showing, but with his head upside-down.

2. If you can see all of Abe Lincoln's head, it's probably time to replace your tires!

Toyota Dream Car Art Contest Hosted by TFS in United States

Dream
Youth Invited to Draw ‘Dream Car’ to Win NOOK Tablet™ or Trip to Japan

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) is hosting the U.S. segment of the worldwide Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, which is designed to inspire creativity in youth and encourage an interest in cars. Across the nation, youth, ages 4-15, are invited to create and submit a drawing of their idea of a “Dream Car” during Feb. 1-28, 2013. Full contest details, along with required entry forms and questionnaires, are available online at www.TFSintheCommunity.com.

Nine U.S. winners will be selected to receive a NOOK Tablet™ plus an award certificate in March 2013. In addition, their artwork will be submitted, along with entries from over 70 countries, for consideration in the World Contest. If any of their entries win, those selected will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Japan to participate in an awards ceremony in August 2013.

“Art is such a great way to connect with young people and to spark their imagination," said George E. Borst, president and CEO for Toyota Financial Services. "That's why we're very excited to expand our promotion of the Dream Car Art Contest this year, and we are encouraging our associates to consider volunteering at local nonprofits on art projects during February."

  History
Last year, World Contest winners included two entrants from Thailand and one from Romania. Although this is the second year that TFS has participated, it is the first year for TFS to promote the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest nationwide through its 38 locations. The first international contest was held in 2004 by Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan with the dual goals of inspiring children to understand the importance of having a dream while, at the same time, encouraging them to become interested in cars by designing "Dream Cars" of their imagination.
