Toyota Announces Presenting Sponsorships of Morgan’s Wonderland, New Scorpions Stadium

Toyota yesterday announced its presenting sponsorship of Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first theme park specifically designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for the enjoyment of everyone, as well as the new San Antonio Scorpions soccer and special-events stadium. 
 

As presenting sponsor of unique and colorful Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, Toyota will provide major financial support for the 25-acre theme park, which is completely wheelchair-accessible. It features more than 25 elements and attractions including rides, playgrounds and gardens, and in its brief history, it already has attracted guests from all 50 states and more than 30 other countries.

Presenting sponsorship of Scorpions stadium will include naming the facility as Toyota Field. As a member of the North American Soccer League (NASL), which is one step removed from Major League Soccer, the Scorpions are the only team in professional sports to be organized for the expressed purpose of supporting a non-profit such as Morgan’s Wonderland that seeks to help those with special needs.

“Toyota is pleased to support Morgan’s Wonderland and the San Antonio Scorpions,” said Jack Hollis, Vice President of Marketing at Toyota Motor Sales, Inc.  “We are honored to be able to support the mission of Morgan’s Wonderland. In less than three short years, the park has made a difference in the lives of thousands of people with special needs and their families. And now the Scorpions bring both the excitement of pro soccer and a revenue stream for the park; this is a win-win situation for everybody. At the announcement, the new “Morgan’s Wonderland presented by Toyota” signage was unveiled by 18-year-old Morgan Hartman, namesake of the park. This signage will be featured throughout the park and in promotional materials. Three Toyota mobility vehicles will also be displayed at Morgan’s Wonderland.
 

Toyota Field signage on the 8,000-seat stadium under construction on Thousand Oaks Drive near Morgan’s Wonderland was also unveiled during the announcement. Toyota support for the Scorpions will be visible in multiple communications initiatives for the team.  Capable of expansion in stages to 18,000 seats, the new stadium home of the Scorpions will be completed in time for the 2013 NASL soccer season and also will host community events and concerts.

San Antonio philanthropist Gordon Hartman and his wife, Maggie, led the effort to create Morgan’s Wonderland so people of all ages with and without disabilities could come together in a safe, colorful, barrier-free park for fun and understanding. 

Morgan’s Wonderland opened in spring 2010 along with the South Texas Area Regional (STAR) Soccer Complex, which like the Scorpions, conveys net profits from the operation of 13 first-class, FIFA-sized playing fields to the theme park. Because anyone with a physical or cognitive special need is admitted free to Morgan’s Wonderland, Hartman sought other revenue streams to help the park meet its financial obligations as well as to expand programs and services for the special-needs community. In April 2012, the San Antonio Scorpions FC began play as the newest team in the NASL and started generating net profits for Morgan’s Wonderland.

Toyota’s $1,000 Rebate Program for College Graduates Now Includes the New Prius c

Toyota's TABC Plant Celebrates 40 Years of Manufacturing in California

Toyota Auto Body California, Inc., (TABC), Toyota’s first manufacturing investment in the U.S., yesterday celebrated its 40^th anniversary with team members, government and community officials, suppliers and executives.

 

TABC, originally known as Atlas Fabricators, contracted with Toyota in 1972 to produce truck beds for vehicles destined for the U.S. Two years later, Toyota purchased the operations and renamed it TABC, becoming the first manufacturing investment in the U.S. for Toyota.

 

Today, TABC employs 470 and its investment tops $270 million. It produces stamped and welded parts, steering columns and catalytic converters for a number of Toyota’s vehicle assembly plants in North America and Japan and tests, inspects and repackages end-of-life hybrid vehicle batteries.

 

“The spirit of family is what makes TABC unique,” said Atsushi Niimi, executive vice president and member of the board of Toyota Motor Corporation. “As our first manufacturing plant in the U.S., TABC’s rich history represents Toyota’s commitment to outstanding teamwork and continuous improvement.”

Toyota Announces 2013 Prices for FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, Sequoia and Tundra

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today announced manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the 2013 FJ Cruiser and 4Runner mid-size SUVs, Highlander and Highlander Hybrid crossover SUVs, Sequoia large SUV and Tundra full-size pickup truck.

2013 FJ Cruiser

The Toyota FJ Cruiser, which uniquely melds the brand’s off-road performance legacy with distinct heritage design in a modern SUV, rolls into 2013 with a new Cement Gray color scheme offered for the high-capability Trail Teams Special Edition. All FJ Cruiser models will now feature Daytime Running Lights and power outside mirrors with illuminated markers as standard equipment. One new color is added, as Magma replaces Silver Fresco Metallic.

The MSRP for the 2013 FJ Cruiser will range from $26,880 for the 4x2 model with a five-speed automatic transmission to $28,470 for the 4x4 automatic. The MSRP’s reflect an average overall increase of $765, or 2.8 percent.

2013 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner, the fifth generation of this rugged, full-capability SUV and a keystone in the Toyota SUV lineup for 28 years, continues as one of the few full-capability SUVs available in its segment. For 2013 4Runner carries over unchanged with the exception of the SR5 grade transfer case changing from a lever to a switch type and the USB port relocating from the glove compartment to the more convenient lower center stack.

The MSRP for the 2013 4Runner will range from $31,340 for the SR5 4x2 to $40,880 for the Limited grade 4x4. The MSRP’s reflect an average overall increase of $305, or 0.9 percent.

2013 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid

The Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid models offer additional value for 2013 with more standard equipment, new option packages and audio systems. A new Highlander Plus model grade replaces the former Highlander grade that was equipped with a Tech Package and Cold Weather Package. The features in these packages will be standard equipment on Highlander Plus along with numerous popular features, including a rear back-up camera.

The 2013 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid models feature changes to standard and optional infotainment technology for 2013, with Display Audio made standard on Highlander, SE and Highlander Plus grades. Highlander Hybrid now includes as standard Display Audio with Navigation and the Entune™ multimedia package.

The Highlander base MSRP will range from $28,870 for the Highlander grade front-wheel-drive with a four-cylinder engine to $39,250 for the Highlander Limited four-wheel-drive V6, reflecting an average overall increase of $1037 or 3.1 percent on existing Highlander models.

The Highlander Hybrid base MSRP will range from $39,970 for the Base grade to $46,170 for the Limited grade, reflecting an average overall increase of $1,527.50 or 3.6 percent.

2013 Sequoia

The Toyota Sequoia, which offers seating for up to eight in a full-size,full-capability sport-utility vehicle, gains new family-friendly entertainment features for 2013. The Sequoia debuts an industry-first Blue-ray rear seat entertainment system, and 2013 also marks the first full year of Toyota Entune™ availability.

The 2013 Sequoia is available in SR5, Limited and Platinum grades, and all models for 2013 now make the 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 standard. The 310-hp 4.6-liter V8 has been discontinued.

The base MSRP for the 2013 Sequoia will range from $41,955 for the SR5 4x2 to $62,570 for the Platinum grade 4x4. The MSRP’s reflect an average overall increase of $580, or 1.1 percent.

2013 Tundra

The Toyota Tundra, recognized for its value and dependability, offers detail changes for 2013, enhancing value and comfort in a hard-working, hard-playing full-size pickup truck.

The Platinum Package that was available for the Tundra CrewMax Limited model in 2012 now becomes a full model grade. The Platinum Grade offers numerous luxury features, such as heated and ventilated front bucket seats with embroidered headrests and driver’s seat two-position memory feature, perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces, DVD navigation system, power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade, and wood-grain-style interior trim.

The base MSRP for the 2013 Tundra will range from $25,355 for the Tundra grade 4x2 Regular Cab 4.0-liter V6 to $43,795 for the Limited grade CrewMax 4x4 5.7-liter V8. The MSRP’s reflect an average overall increase of $200, or 0.6 percent.

The prices for the 2013 FJ Cruiser and 4Runner take effect immediately. Pricing for the 2013 Highlander Hybrid will take effect August 20th with the start of production. Prices for 2013 Highlander (gas) and Sequoia take effect with the beginning production on August 27. Prices for 2013 Tundra take effect with the start of production on August 31.

Toyota MSRPs do not include a delivery, processing and handling The Destination Processing and Handling (DPH) fees are $795 for Toyota passenger cars, $845 for Toyota small/medium trucks, and $995 for large trucks (Sequoia and Tundra only). The DPH fee for vehicles distributed by Southeast Toyota (SET) and Gulf States Toyota (GST) may vary.

Happy Monday Folks! This week's car care tip: 5 Things to Always have in your Car

Nobody wants to breakdown and be left stranded on the side of the road somewhere due to car trouble. Some people, never really give the idea a thought; they get in their cars, start the engine and go. For some others, the possibility of breaking down while driving, is a real; ever present fear that could happen at any moment, on every journey, usually due to some known, unattended mechanical problem with their car. What ever the case may be, breakdowns are commonly a random event, so drivers should try to be prepared if one should find themselves in such a predicament.

There are 5 essential items that every car should have stored in them at all times…… in case you find yourself stranded on the side of the road due to car trouble.

Spare Tire, Tire iron & Jack

Chances are, at some point, your going to get a flat tire. Changing a flat car tire may seem difficult at first, but it's quite easy and straight forward when you have the proper tools, mainly the tire iron (wheel stud remover) and car jack for that particular type of car. Every new car comes with a spare tire and car jack kit, therefore every car should have a set, usually hidden somewhere in the truck area. In some early model foreign cars, you might find the tire iron or jack under the back passenger seat somewhere. Know where your spare tire, tire iron and jack are located in your automobile. This will save you the frustration of trying to find them in the darkness or at the side of the highway with traffic whizzing by.

 

Generally, there are two types of spare tires.

• A full-size spare tire…(a tire that is identical in size as the rest of the current tires on the car).
• A solid spare tire…. (better known as the donut spare tire).

Full size spares are more convenient because you only have to change the wheel once. As long as the wheel studs are securely tightened after installation you're good to go for as far and as long as you like. You can get the flat tire fix at your convenience. However, full size spare tires loose air over time, so it is quite common to get a flat tire, start changing it, only then to find your saving grace spare tire….is flat to.

 

The solid or donut spare tire is much smaller than a full size spare tire. Made of solid core rubber they require no air, therefore, they are always dependably ready for usage when needed. Donut spares are much lighter and are much easier to handle and change than full-size spare tires….. especially in sticky and dangerous situations. Such as, changing a tire on the interstate highway or in the darkness of night - where quick tire changes are most needed.

The downsides to donut spare tires are they cannot be driven on for too many miles /kilometres. They are not really designed for long distance driving only to get you to the nearest service station for a proper tire installation. Even thought some people drive on their donut spare for days, even weeks, this is not the safest practice. One should change to a full size wheel as soon as possible.

Practice changing one tire or watch a tire being changed before hand to get a feel of how to do it, and you should be able to get through a roadside tire change if need be. Never try to change a tire without first assessing the situation for safety first. Be sure that you are away from any traffic or dangers before attempting to change a flat car tire. 

Jumper Cables or a Portable Battery Booster Pack

Battery failure can happen anywhere, at any time, and to anyone, sometimes twice or more in one day. Next to a flat tire, a dead battery is one of the most common things that will leave you stuck. A weak or failing battery, forgetting to turn off your headlights, leaving your dome/map lights on over night, or even a loose battery wire connection can cost you big in inconvenience and money- if you're not prepared. Keeping a pair of jumper cables in your car is a smart move. But even better, is a mobile battery power pack.

 

A 12 volt portable battery booster pack enables you to start your car with out the assistance of another car. Two large alligator clip connectors - one red for positive, one black for negative, attach to your car battery as a set of jumper cables from another car would. Turn the booster pack on, and then start your car. It's that easy and that quick. They come in various power ratings for different size cars. Anything above 400A (cold cranking amps) will start most small to midsize vehicles. They can cost anywhere from 55 to 100 dollars. Having a charged portable battery booster pack in your car can be priceless. Trying to find someone to help you boost your car is not always easy, especially if it's cold, rainy, and late at night or early in the morning.

 

Flashlight

 

Having a flashlight handy is always a good thing. In a car break down situation, it makes the whole process of changing a tire or jump starting your car, go smoother. When you can see what you're doing you'll feel more confident about 'what' you're doing and you're more likely to finish faster. Rather than fumbling around in the dark. Also, when you stand beside your car holding a flashlight that is on, it acts like a beacon showing other drivers that you are there….so they don't run you over. This goes the same for if you run out of gas and decide to walk to the next gas station…you should bring a flashlight …so other drivers can see you well in advance.

Emergency Road Kit

You can get a ready made mobile safety kit from most of the major big box stores in the automotive department. Usually a good kit will include all the frill and sprinkles such as: booster cables, air compressor, muti-tools, flashlight, emergency blanket, gloves, rain poncho, first aid kit, collapsible metal shovel, reflective triangles, road flares, and disposable camera.

One could make there own emergency road kit to best suit their climate conditions and or personal needs for considerably less than it would cost to buy one. Other items one might want to add to there mobile emergency road kit could include: food/water, clothing, winter weather tools or gear, engine fluids, the list could go on. The idea is for your kit to be compact and functional. It's up to the individual to decide what would be the best for their situation.

You can't pick where and when you're going to have engine trouble. The only thing you can do is control how you're ready to deal with the scenario if it should arise. Having the items mentioned earlier will aid in keeping you safe and give you a peace of mind if you're ever stuck on the side of the road.
