Toyota Earns Three 'Top Scoring Car Awards' in First Annual Total Car Score Rankings

Toyota was named the winner in three automotive categories in the first annual Total Car Score “Top Scoring Car Awards” rankings.
Dt-1

The all-new Toyota Camry, the best-selling car in America, earned a Top Scoring Car award in the 2012 Midsize Sedan/Wagon segment. The Toyota Avalon received Top Scoring Car honors in the 2012 Large Sedan/Wagon category. Toyota’s full-size Tundra pickup captured an award in the 2012 Large Truck segment.

The awards are based on a ranking formula created by Total Car Score, an automotive ranking and comparison website, which offers a comprehensive evaluation of 2012 model year vehicles in various segments. Each vehicle’s score is based on combined vehicle evaluations from the top automotive review and rating sites. Total Car Score utilizes the ratings and converts them into a simple percentage. The average number from all of these sources represents the vehicle’s total combined score. A vehicle must have a rating from at least five sources to qualify.

"Leased my first vehicle from them 3 years ago and got a great deal on my second lease today. Spent several hours there, test driving different vehicles and talking with Wayne - no pressure, very helpful. Really like working with them. Service department was great when I went for inspections as well. Love my new car, look forward to working with them again in the future." - Krista.

Toyota dominates Consumer Reports top picks of 2012

Toyota-logo

Family sedan:  Toyota Camry Hybrid
With its 2012 redesign, the Camry Hybrid jumped to the top of the family-sedan category. One eye-opener for a car of this size is its impressive 38 mpg overall fuel economy, the best in class and even better than some smaller hybrids that lack the Camry’s performance. Other high points include a comfortable ride; a roomy, quiet cabin; fairly quick acceleration; and for 2012, a nicer interior and somewhat crisper handling (although the Camry is still no sports sedan).

Price: $29,052

Small SUV: Toyota RAV4
With its inviting blend of performance, fuel economy, and versatility, the RAV4 continues to set the pace among small SUVs. It also provides a roomy interior, comfortable ride, and responsive handling, as well as excellent reliability. With a four-cylinder engine, the RAV4 delivers some of the best gas mileage in its class. The spirited V-6 version accelerates as quickly as many sports sedans and gets only 1 mpg less than the four-cylinder model. Its optional third-row seat is small but useful.

Price: $25,405 to $30,328

Family hauler: Toyota Sienna (V-6)
This versatile minivan fits the bill nicely for families looking for a comfortable, roomy interior, plenty of features, and the ability to carry up to eight people. Among its high points are lively performance, decent fuel economy, and a comfortable ride, although the handling is rather lackluster. The Sienna is the only minivan available with all-wheel drive. But that version has had below-average reliability, according to our latest survey, so we recommend only the front-wheel-drive version.

Price: $35,810

Green car: Toyota Prius
In this dawning age of automotive electrification, the Prius still sets the standard for its blend of fuel efficiency, practicality, and affordability. The 44 overall mpg we measured in the hatchback is still the highest of any five-passenger, non-plug-in vehicle we’ve tested, and the 41 mpg of the new Prius V wagon easily tops its class. Moreover, its roomy interior, comfortable ride, and hatchback versatility make it easy to live with. Crash-test results are excellent. New electric cars have gotten the energy equivalent of higher mpg figures, but they’re less practical and affordable.

Price: $26,750 to $28,217

Family SUV: Toyota Highlander
The Highlander returns to our list after last year’s pick, the V-6 Kia Sorento, dropped to below average in predicted reliability. This refined, comfortable, and quiet SUV has consistently ranked near the top of its class in our road-test scores and has had above-average reliability. Its interior is nicely finished and versatile, with a roomy second-row seat but a tight third row. The V-6 version delivers a decent 18 mpg overall, and the hybrid model tops all SUVs at 27.

Price: $38,578 to $47,255

"In total I probably met with six staff and I couldn't have been treated better. I was at Day for approximately two hours and it appeared to me that this was a staff that worked well together and enjoyed their work! The dealership had in place the car , color & options that I was interested in. That being said, the most important two items on the agenda namely trade-in value & cost of the new car were the best by far of the dealerships that offered me quotes. From sales to service, Day is with the best." - whipper1.

Happy Monday Folks! It's time for our weekly car care tip: When temperatures affect tire inflation

When outside temperatures drop or soar, tires tend to lose pressure. A drop of 10 degrees F (6 degrees C), in fact, will decrease a tire’s air pressure by1 or 2 pounds. Tires can lose even more air in hot weather. Under-inflated tires can result in accelerated wear and poor driving performance. If you live in a place where temperatures vary a lot, check your tire pressure often and add air as needed.

"I had stopped by Day Toyota to look at the Prius. I currently owned a 2010 car that was a great car but I wanted or needed a car that got much better gas mileage. When I pulled into the dealership, Matt had came out and greeted me. I said hello and explained to him what I was looking for and that the current car that I had I was still upside down in the loan. I told him I was not sure if they could do anything for me or not. I also asked Matt if it was better to go for a new one or a used model. He told me lets look at your current car and find out what would be best for me.. I thought that was remarkable. I test drove a couple of Prius's and really liked the first one. Well I was approved for that Prius which by the way was a Toyota Certified, which is the best way to go.. I have owned it for 3 months and 5,000 miles and NO problems. I stopped by the other day to get an oil change. The service department what a surprise. They were kind and very passionate about their job. I will always come back to them for future work to be done on my Prius. Keep up the Great work. Way to go Day Toyota" - pfeilcorey.

Toyota 100 Cars for Good begins taking your votes

Toyota is asking the public to pick a charity a day for the next 100 days to receive a free vehicle as part of their annual 100 Cars for Good event. You can vote for your charity picks starting right now.

Toyota

The second year of Toyota's program, 100 Cars for Good began today as 500 charities will try to win one of 100 cars the auto manufacturer is giving away. Voting is entirely up to the public and being done on Facebook.

So if you have a Facebook account and want to participate, your vote matters. You can visit 100 Cars for Good, choose from one of five charities listed daily for the next one hundred days, and help Toyota give away one hundred cars to needy organizations around the country.

At the end of each day, the organization with the most votes of the five charities listed will win their choice of a Camry Hybrid sedan, Highlander SUV, Prius v hybrid hatchback, Sienna minivan, Sienna Mobility minivan, or Tundra pickup truck.

The 500 finalists in Toyota's charity lineup this year come from all fifty states and Washington, D.C. and their profiles can be viewed on 100carsforgood.com.

“At Toyota, we appreciate what a big difference a new car or truck can make for organizations working to improve lives and strengthen communities across America,” said Jim Lentz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Motor Sales. “Over the past 20 years, Toyota has contributed more than half a billion dollars to nonprofits throughout the U.S. 100 Cars for Good allows us to build on that commitment in new ways, putting the public in the ‘driver’s seat’ as we work to help community organizations make an even bigger impact. We wish all of this year’s finalists the best of luck.”

Those non-profits that do not win a car will win $1,000 in cash and all finalists have received digital cameras, training materials, and online advertising credits to help them get the word out about their charity on the Internet.

Folks it's time for this week's Car Care tip again: Focus on Filters

Dt

There are several filters (the main ones are oil, fuel, transmission, and air) important to preserving your car engine, and they should be changed according to the schedule in your owner’s manual or as follows:
- Change the oil filter at least at every other oil change — every change is even better because the old filter contains nearly a quart of dirty oil that will remain with the new, clean oil. If you change your oil yourself, wipe the filter threads with an anti-seize lubricant, available at auto supply stores.
- Check the air filter every two months and replace it when dirty or as part of a tune-up. Air filters are generally easier to get to than oil filters. You find them under the big metal lid in a carbureted engine or in a rectangular box in a fuel injected engine — check your owner’s manual for the exact location. Extend the life of air filters by blowing them clean with compressed air.
- Despite claims by makers and dealers that some newer fuel filters never need changing, it’s smart to have it done once a year. A clogged fuel filter will cause poor engine performance (hesitation and starting difficulties) and is an early warning that there may be corrosion in your gas tank.
- Change your transmission fluid filter after the first 5,000 miles (8,000 km) of driving and every 25,000 miles (40,000 km) or two year thereafter.

2013 Toyota RAV4 EV: First Look

Pt-1

The expanding electric car club will get its first compact SUV for model-year 2013. The all-electric version of Toyota's compact crossover will go on sale this summer with a base price of $49,800.

Toyota partnered with Tesla on the 2013 RAV4 EV; it paid the electric car company approximately $100 million to supply the RAV4 EV's powertrain, including the battery, motor, gearbox and power electronics.

The RAV4 EV will be available in front-wheel drive only and use an electric powertrain with a maximum output of 154 horsepower. It will offer drivers two modes: In Sport mode, RAV4 EV will do zero to 60 mph in 7 seconds and have a max speed of 100 mph. In Normal mode, those numbers drop to 8.6 seconds and 85 mph, respectively. The dashboard display color changes to red when in Sport mode and blue in Normal mode. Toyota expects the RAV4 EV to have a driving range of around 100 miles and a charging time of about six hours on a 240-volt charger.

The electric version looks a lot like the gas-powered RAV4. Minor exterior tweaks include a restyled front bumper, updated upper and lower grille, new side mirrors, a unique rear spoiler and under-body tweaks designed to maximize air flow. Also new are LED head- and taillights. It'll be available in three new EV-specific colors: Blizzard White Pearl, Shoreline Blue Pearl and Classic Silver Metallic.

Inside, shiny blue-accented woven fabric — Toyota calls it Neutron — trims the cabin. Standard equipment includes heated front seats, an 8-inch touch-screen with navigation, the Entune multimedia system, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. Also, Toyota says the RAV4 EV's battery doesn't steal any cabin space and its cargo capacity is the same as the regular model: 73 cubic feet.

Availability will be limited initially; it'll only be on sale this summer at select dealerships in California, including Sacramento, San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles/Orange County and San Diego. Toyota hopes to sell around 2,600 RAV4 EVs during the next three years.

Thank you for this outstanding review!

"This buying experience was one of the best I have ever had and I've been buying cars for over 30 years. When I first came to the dealership, I had already decided on what I wanted and did not want to spend a lot of time. Gary, the salesperson I dealt with, understood exactly what I needed and did not waste my time by repeating information I already had. He did offer me a test drive, which I declined, and then proceeded to give me their best price which was significantly less than I had been quoted elsewhere. We closed the deal without any further issues.

One item that would have made the experience even better was if the optional equipment I ordered had been available when the car came in. That would have let me avoid an additional trip; however, I was provided with a loaner car." - stripes01

Folks, with the Save in May Sales Event going on, this week's Car Care Tip is perfect for your brand new Toyota!

Dt

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Here are some things to remember as you pull it out of the dealer’s lot:

-          During the break-in period, typically the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km), keep your speed under 55 mph (88 kpm) or to the speed recommended by your car’s manufacturer.

-          Avoid heavy loads on the drive train, such as towing trailers, and loading the roof rack or trunk with heavy construction materials.

-          Do not allow your new car to idle for long periods — this is good advice for the life of your car, but especially during break-in. The oil pressure generated by doing so may not be sending oil to every part of your engine.

-          Use only light to medium acceleration, keeping the engine rpms below 3,000 for the first few hours of driving.

"It was the best car buying experience I've ever had and I'm a hard person to please."
