At Toyota, we constantly strive to reduce our impact on the environment. Recently, our efforts were recognized with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) highest honor: the 2011 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award for energy efficiency. This award acknowledges Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America’s (TEMA) consistent success in minimizing its impact on the environment through robust energy management and efficiency in its operations. This is TEMA’s seventh consecutive ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award for its long-term commitment to the environment across its ten manufacturing operations in the U.S. Altogether, energy improvements at TEMA facilities have reduced CO2 emissions by almost 150,000 metric tons. Since 2006, the EPA has also recognized outstanding energy performance at many individual TEMA plants, awarding them a total of 18 Energy Star Plant Awards. Our Kentucky plant stands out for having received five consecutive nods in this category.
